Close fake tech scams (Chrome OS)

Close fake error messages and tech support scams.  

This article refers to computers running Chrome OS.  If you are running Windows, see this article.

Chrome OS (Chromebook, Chromebox)

Method 1 for Chrome OS.

1. If Google Chrome is full screen and not showing the "X" on the tabs or at the top right, press the Esc key at the top left of your keyboard. 
2. You may now have the option to close the offending tab with the fake error message, or to close Chrome with the X at the top right.
3. When re-opening Chrome, DO NOT choose the option to "Restore tabs".

Method 2 for Chrome OS.

1. Locate the Search button on your keyboard as well as the ALT key. 
2. While holding both of these keys, tap the number 4.  This should close the Chrome window which was giving the fake error message.
   

Method 3 for Chrome OS.

1. Locate the Shift button on your keyboard as well as the ALT key. 
2. While holding both of these keys, tap the number 4.  This should close the Chrome window which was giving the fake error message.

Method 4 for Chrome OS.

1. Locate the Shift and the Escape keys on your keyboard.
2. Press both keys at the same time to bring up the Task Manager.
3. In the Task column, click on Browser so it's highlighted and then click on End Process.
4. This will close the Chrome browser.  When you open Chrome again, DO NOT click on "Restore Tabs" option.
